MOVING TO AUSTRALIA
- CUSTOMS AND QUARANTINE DECIPHERED
All countries have laws regarding what can
and cannot be imported in order to protect their land and
citizens. Though people moving to Australia can import most
of their household goods and personal effects, some items
cannot be imported and there are certain measures that need
to be taken to comply with Australia’s Customs regulations
and Quarantine laws to ensure the country stays free of agricultural
diseases that exist elsewhere.

OVERCOMING CULTURAL
DIFFERENCES
The impact cultural differences can have on
a transferee’s assignment cannot be overestimated. It
is not uncommon for a new transferee to return home because
their partner or children were unhappy; one whose communication
at work has created barriers in their team; or one who simply
finds the cultural differences overwhelming upon arrival.

PROFILING LIZ RYAN,
RELOCATION PRACTITIONER
Liz started working with A-Locate in 2006
